Seeking Proverbial Wisdom?

When you hear 'proverbs', you might be thinking 'wise thoughts.' And, you'd be right!

Solomon--who was son of David and a king of Israel--asked God for understanding and received his request. He then wrote down thoughts that are worthy of the ages into the book of the Bible we now call Proverbs, literally meaning "to be like." Who are we to be like? Ultimately, Jesus Christ. And Solomon's request for understanding is one that we might offer up to God as well, in our seeking to be like our Lord.

For the next three months, I will be facilitating a Bible study over at my other blog, In-between Time, on Proverbs. We will study the entire book, taking each chapter in small sections, thinking through some thought questions, and otherwise allowing the Spirit to fill us with the wisdom of God, to use as He wills.

It's a
daily blog, meaning new entries will be posted daily! (And that may further impact the number of posts over here!!) I will provide the Scripture verse focus and thought questions. Your thoughts and comments will enrich this space. This is meant to be a conversational, sharing blog not an "I am teaching you" blog.

Come join us on Monday, June 1st!

and let the discerning get guidance-

for understanding proverbs and parables,
the sayings and riddles of the wise.

Hi Sue,

I put a link on my blog for you too! I don't know if I'll get to participate as I need to finish my Daniel study, and I'm going to be doing a Bible study this summer written for moms who have miscarried, had stillbirths or have lost a child in infancy. I think it's wonderful that you're facilitating the Proverbs study!

Blessings!

I just saw your stunning bell ringing performance over at Chatty Kelly's! HOW DID YOU DO THAT?! This is the first year I've been in our church choir, and I've found it fascinating to watch the bell choir perform when I've been sitting in the choir loft. Were you out of breath when you were done? You looked like you were even gettin' down and groovin' a bit as you performed! VERY COOL!

Hey Sue J! Awesome bell performance! Really it was just INCREDIBLE! I loved watching you get totally into what you were doing. How in the world you could keep up with all those bells and put them back in the same spots AND turn the page on the sheet music!

Clap, Clap, Clap, Clap, Clap, Clap, Clap, Clap, Clap, Clap, Clap, Clap! Encore, Encore!!

Hi. Sue. I am going to try to join you in this Bible Study. No promises, as I have that "good intentions" issue.

I know I've told you this before, but your bell playing just amazes me. I remember playing in my handbell choir at church when I was a teenager. I had 2 medium bells I was responsible for and an occassional 3rd. When I had to play that 1-2 strokes on the 3rd bell, I would be SO stressed. I think I only dropped it once....ouch.

You really are awesome!

On this Merry Christmas Night....

Merry Christmas, blog friends! I know you're wondering, "Did she finish painting her family room (finally....)??" (Nope!) * * * D oesn't this look like how our days are sometimes? Myriad things scattered about, unfinished. Trying to take a cozy, restful seat by the fire, but still that seat stays empty. We try to make things brighter, but the light strings don't quite have the power to make things clear for us. And we wonder how many coats it will take to cover up what had been there before, without splotches and unevenness. (Three may just be right--sigh....!) * * * We may have things unfinished. We may have "miscalculated" the use of our time. Or perhaps we were called away to other things for which we were needed, even if they weren't part of our plans. Even in our peaceful approach to Christmas, that seat of rest may be vacant. But the opportunity to "Be still...." doesn't always lie in a cozy sea

When I was 45....

I t was a very good year! (Yep, celebrating again! I hijacked my own blog--LOL!) The glass is half full, and things have never looked more browniful! Awesome day on tap.... sunshine, take-out barbecue for dinner, cake.... Thanks for celebrating with me! Enjoy.... ( Let it rise....One of my all-time favorite praise songs! )

L ong before we bloggers celebrated our first 100 posts, the psalmists provided us with theirs. In recognition of my 100th, let's celebrate by looking at the Bible's "Post #100" (a.k.a., Psalm 100, A Psalm for Thanksgiving or Thank Offering): Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all ye lands. Surprisingly, there is no direct Hebrew translation for the English word 'joyful' as used in this verse in the King James Version. That leaves things a bit open to interpretation. My study Bible (NASB) says 'joyful' is "a shout of loyalty and homage." The dictionary defines 'joy' with the word rejoicing, meaning "to be made glad again." 'Noise,' however, does come with a Hebrew equivalent, meaning "to split the ears with sound," as in to shout, shout for joy. Lands implies all the earth, the nations, the world. We, those of all nations, are to present to the Lord, out of our loyalty and homage to Him, joyful shouts that
