It's in the Wind

Have you seen the wind?

There's such definite presence when it blows in, yet it's indefinable in appearance--except by those things which attempt to define it: piles of leaves, dust, roadside trash, powdery snow, ruffling porch flags, inverted umbrellas.

Wind is not a friend, really. God used winds from different directions to bring about different outcomes—wind and rain with one direction; locusts with another. Pooh called it 'blustery' for a reason! If we put a face on the wind, I think it would be as nondescript as the rest of wind. But purposeful! Pointed, perhaps.

What's odd is that something so invisible is yet so tangible. Something so unfriendly is something we're prone to strive to be like. (Oh, just not the blustery part, right?)

No, the part that moves things. We want to be movers and shakers. We want things to happen and happen with speed. We want to sweep people off their feet...swirl our ideas about. We want to go faster and faster, acquiring more and more elements along the way--seeking to define ourselves.

Do you see me?! Do you know me?! Move with me!!

Wind meets a shut door or window.

OOOPH!

Taken out of the sails....

Losing speed. Losing intensity. Losing acquired "identity."

And when I can "Be still" and wonder about the wind and the Source of the wind, instead of trying to be the wind.... Then I become invisible and purposeful and properly pointed, like the wind. (And, maybe, not even blustery!)

One hand full of rest is better than two fists full of labor and striving after wind.
—Ecclesiastes 4:6

This trying to be like the wind sounds so much like us especially this time of year. May we all slow down and let God do the moving, and knowing.....

"And when I can "Be still" Getting to "the Source"
"handful of rest" is worth more than two fists full of labor and striving after the wind."

Some treasures here, Sue J, for me to ponder.

Thanks!

Okay, the picture scared me to death, honestly. Like QUICK save RJ2 from the scary thing.

But your post was deep thinking and I really enjoyed it alot.

Excellent, as always.

Reminds me of John 3:8: The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear the sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.

Perhaps, this is why we long to be the wind?

I've always loved the wind (even after it blew the tree on our house). It feels so good in your face and its strength always amazes me.
My grandfather, who was a fire chief, used to say the 2 things that were the scariest to him were wind and lightening. No one can control them but God.

These are some great thoughts.

I too have to agree with Chatty Kelly...the blue "thang" was a little scary for me...and I was trying to figure it out?!?!

Sue,
I loved your analogy. How great to know we don't have to be the wind. But, it's hard to slow down and wait for our divine breeze to blow, to guide, to direct.

Great writing.

On this Merry Christmas Night....

Merry Christmas, blog friends! I know you're wondering, "Did she finish painting her family room (finally....)??" (Nope!) * * * D oesn't this look like how our days are sometimes? Myriad things scattered about, unfinished. Trying to take a cozy, restful seat by the fire, but still that seat stays empty. We try to make things brighter, but the light strings don't quite have the power to make things clear for us. And we wonder how many coats it will take to cover up what had been there before, without splotches and unevenness. (Three may just be right--sigh....!) * * * We may have things unfinished. We may have "miscalculated" the use of our time. Or perhaps we were called away to other things for which we were needed, even if they weren't part of our plans. Even in our peaceful approach to Christmas, that seat of rest may be vacant. But the opportunity to "Be still...." doesn't always lie in a cozy sea

When I was 45....

Awesome day on tap.... sunshine, take-out barbecue for dinner, cake.... Thanks for celebrating with me! Enjoy.... ( Let it rise....One of my all-time favorite praise songs! )

L ong before we bloggers celebrated our first 100 posts, the psalmists provided us with theirs. In recognition of my 100th, let's celebrate by looking at the Bible's "Post #100" (a.k.a., Psalm 100, A Psalm for Thanksgiving or Thank Offering): Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all ye lands. Surprisingly, there is no direct Hebrew translation for the English word 'joyful' as used in this verse in the King James Version. That leaves things a bit open to interpretation. My study Bible (NASB) says 'joyful' is "a shout of loyalty and homage." The dictionary defines 'joy' with the word rejoicing, meaning "to be made glad again." 'Noise,' however, does come with a Hebrew equivalent, meaning "to split the ears with sound," as in to shout, shout for joy. Lands implies all the earth, the nations, the world. We, those of all nations, are to present to the Lord, out of our loyalty and homage to Him, joyful shouts that
