"Now"

Summer days bring the opportunity for special mornings out. RJ2 is in extended school year and CJ now has mornings free. (Afternoons are filled with theater camp--this week, writing and producing a TV commercial!)

This morning, I had to visit the dermatologist for a quarterly checkup. (Good news is that I'll be moving to 6-month visits in October instead of quarterly visits. Woo-hoo!)

As CJ and I waited outside the opening elevator doors at the doctors' office building, a man was inside the elevator waiting to exit. When he saw CJ, he smiled and said something to the effect of, "I'm the father of all girls. Those were great days."

I'm sure he was referring to her tie-dyed shirt and freshly washed hair at 8:30 in the morning, escorting mom on her summer outing.

Making up for the stay in the waiting room (CJ even got the boot from her seat at the fish tank when the tank cleaner came to do his job!), we headed off to Krispy Kreme. It's always a good time, especially when the "hot" sign goes on as you're watching the glaze spill over the 9 o'clock donuts!

We enjoyed one "hot" one, because you can't NOT have a "hot" donut at Krispy Kreme, even when you want something else. We each had this month's flavored donut, the lemon Kreme pie donut: a lemon-cream filled donut, dusted with powdered sugar and topped with a lemony pudding squiggle. YUM!

CJ made a rest room stop, and a woman at the next table, who had likely been listening in a bit, struck up a conversation with me, as if she had known me for years. This was rather interesting as my bloggy friend, Kara, was just sharing on Facebook that she had had a similar experience happen to her and her daughter just yesterday with an older gentleman. I felt bad for this woman, who shared her struggles in keeping close with her daughter and family in another state. She apologized for the intrusion into my time with CJ, but I said it was not a bother at all. She was sitting in front of a box of 8 donuts, and I was glad that she left not having eaten all of them in front of us.

It all made my morning out with CJ just a little more significant.

my dad always called those times "serendipitous" moments....or God sightings... whatever they are they are awesome and connect us to the human race... we have to introduce Anna, the newest member of the Nichols' gang, to hot Krispy Kreme donuts. She has never had one "just made" - I feel as though she has been deprived.... :)

On this Merry Christmas Night....

Merry Christmas, blog friends! I know you're wondering, "Did she finish painting her family room (finally....)??" (Nope!) * * * D oesn't this look like how our days are sometimes? Myriad things scattered about, unfinished. Trying to take a cozy, restful seat by the fire, but still that seat stays empty. We try to make things brighter, but the light strings don't quite have the power to make things clear for us. And we wonder how many coats it will take to cover up what had been there before, without splotches and unevenness. (Three may just be right--sigh....!) * * * We may have things unfinished. We may have "miscalculated" the use of our time. Or perhaps we were called away to other things for which we were needed, even if they weren't part of our plans. Even in our peaceful approach to Christmas, that seat of rest may be vacant. But the opportunity to "Be still...." doesn't always lie in a cozy sea...

When I was 45....

I t was a very good year! (Yep, celebrating again! I hijacked my own blog--LOL!) The glass is half full, and things have never looked more browniful! Awesome day on tap.... sunshine, take-out barbecue for dinner, cake.... Thanks for celebrating with me! Enjoy.... ( Let it rise....One of my all-time favorite praise songs! )

L ong before we bloggers celebrated our first 100 posts, the psalmists provided us with theirs. In recognition of my 100th, let's celebrate by looking at the Bible's "Post #100" (a.k.a., Psalm 100, A Psalm for Thanksgiving or Thank Offering): Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all ye lands. Surprisingly, there is no direct Hebrew translation for the English word 'joyful' as used in this verse in the King James Version. That leaves things a bit open to interpretation. My study Bible (NASB) says 'joyful' is "a shout of loyalty and homage." The dictionary defines 'joy' with the word rejoicing, meaning "to be made glad again." 'Noise,' however, does come with a Hebrew equivalent, meaning "to split the ears with sound," as in to shout, shout for joy. Lands implies all the earth, the nations, the world. We, those of all nations, are to present to the Lord, out of our loyalty and homage to Him, joyful shouts that...
